Senior Companion Program

The Federal Government, under the Corporation for National Service, with the sponsorship of your county, funds the "Senior Companion Program". The Senior Companion Program provides opportunities for seniors age 60 or older to earn a small tax free stipend and minimum benefits while providing part-time companionship to frail elderly individuals who may be homebound or isolated and who need the assistance and support of a companion.

The services provided by the Senior Companions help elderly individuals maintain their independent living. Typical services provided include: escort to medical and other appointments, letter writing, reading, light meal preparation, making phone calls, minor referrals for various community support services, assisting with emergencies which may arise and respite care (providing relief to the client's caregiver).
