CSI Support & Development Services

CSI Support and Development Services is a model of participatory management that utilizes resident involvement in the daily decisions of each apartment building.  Our system is highly developed and has a long history as a democratically controlled consumer cooperative with worthwhile economic significance for its members.

Studies have shown that interventions directed toward increasing opportunities for resident involvement and control of the residential environment generally increases the wellbeing and morale of older people.  A senior’s lifelong abilities and desire for independence and self-sufficiency appears to ease the adjustments from individual homes and neighborhoods to an apartment environment.  Involved residents share interests and values.

Each senior building has a council composed of residents who manage most of the buildings’ business.  They hire contractors, purchase supplies, employ and oversee maintenance staff and set rents by planning the annual budget.  Each building has a number of committees with specific management, maintenance and recreational duties.  A professional staff works closely with the volunteers.

Residents are strongly urged to become involved into the management of their building which leads to a greater satisfaction.  They enjoy new friendships and are welcome to cultural and educational opportunities.  Jean Simmons, one of our members, told us, “When I moved here it was like moving into heaven!  The building is very nice but it is the system that I like the most.  I am sorry it took me so long to find it!”

We have twenty buildings in the tri-county area!  Our Detroit, Michigan, buildings were inadvertently omitted from the printed ad on Page 2 of the Senior Citizens Guide to Metropolitan Detroit.  They are wonderful examples of the type of housing we provide.  The Meyers Plaza and the Rio Vista Co-op Apartments are currently taking names for their one-bedroom wait list.  They both offer many amenities such as walk-in closets, individual controls on the heat and air conditioning, laundry facilities, community room, library and hair salon.  Both buildings have a van, so if you’d like to sign up for a day trip you would have that opportunity.

We have availability at many of our other buildings.  If you are interested in obtaining additional information please call us at our toll-free, wait list line Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1-800-593-3052.
