- Provide "hands-on" care and patient hygiene including, toileting, bathing, grooming and dressing with the goal of maintaining the independence
- Provide companionship, supervision, entertaining
- Assist regular and appropriate exercise, and ambulatory assistance
- Develop shopping list / appropriate storage of food / and manage leftovers
- Prepare nutritious meals in cooperation with the patient's dietary requirements
- Assist and encourage the patient with eating
- Assist patient from one location to another in the house, as may be required
- Monitor the change in the client's condition and needs
- Arrange and escort to doctor appointments
- Pick up prescriptions
- Do laundry / kitchen clean-up / light housekeeping
- Take out garbage
- Respond to callers at the door and answer the telephone, taking messages
- Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements
- Assist client with emotional, psychological, cultural and spiritual needs
- Assist with celebrations and special events
- Maintain family scrapbook
- Medication reminders
- Assist with the visiting of neighbors and friends
- No smoking in the house (only allowed outside)
- No friends or associates of the caregiver inside the house with prior approval
- Restricted use of patient telephone
