Freedom Transit Shared Ride Program

Freedom Transit operates the Senior Shared Ride Program in Washington County, PA, Monday through Saturday, 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This service is offered as door-to-door, meaning the transit vehicle will pick you up at the door of your residence and take you to the door of your drop off location.

You must be registered for Freedom Transit’s Shared Ride transportation service before scheduling your ride. Applications are available for download and print online at freedomtransit.org, or by calling (724) 223-8747 and having an application mailed to you. You can also view our Shared Ride Application online.

Transit vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts and passengers who need and request assistance between the door of the pickup and drop off locations will receive it. Drivers cannot, however, provide lifting assistance for passengers or take a wheelchair up and down stairs.  When scheduling your ride, please let the Customer Service Representative know if you will need a wheelchair accessible vehicle.

With this service being shared-ride in nature, you will most likely be riding with other passengers who may be picked up and dropped off before you reach your destination. We try to make sure, in most instances that no one rides for more than an hour. The trip may take longer than if you were going by yourself, and passengers need to plan accordingly.

Freedom Transit’s Senior Shared Ride Program operates as a non-emergency, prescheduled paratransit ride provided to eligible persons enrolled in the Shared Ride Program. The service is funded in part by the Pennsylvania State Lottery and The SWPA Area Agency on Aging.

Seniors 65+ looking to use Freedom Transit’s Shared Ride service for medical appointments and trips are required to pay a 7.5% co-pay at the time of pick up. This fare will range from $0.90-$4.50 one way, depending on the miles travelled by the most direct route.

Seniors 65+ who are looking to use Freedom Transit’s Shared Ride service for non-medical trips are required to pay a 15% co-pay at the time of pick up. This fare will range from $1.75-$9.00 one way, depending on the miles travelled by the most direct route.

Trips to local senior centers are provided at no cost to registered passengers who are 60+. This service is provided by the SWPA Area Agency on Aging.
