Helping all seniors live a full and abundant life in the Pittsburgh area.

senior residential living - Lutheran SeniorLifeLutheran SeniorLife is Western Pennsylvania's premier provider of senior living and health care communities. Now in our second century of caring for seniors, our Christian faith-based ministry is the cornerstone of our mission — helping seniors live a full and abundant life in a setting that promotes wellness and independence. In addition to residential and assisted living communities, Lutheran SeniorLife provides a comprehensive array of health and wellness services for seniors, including home health care, rehabilitation services, and this region's premier Alzheimer's care program.

Residential Living

Lutheran SeniorLife offers a variety of attractive residential senior living communities, which are designed to create independence and privacy and to encourage socialization:

Passavant Retirement Community
Living arrangements are available in many sizes from efficiency cottages and apartments to two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments in four distinct venues.

The Commons at Stonebrook Village
Floor plans range from studio apartments to one or two-bedroom styles, many with private balconies. All are spacious and feature individual climate control, radiant heated floors, plenty of closet space, high ceilings and large, accommodating baths.

Crown Pointe Butler & Crown Pointe Greensburg
The single-level condominiums offer two-bedrooms, two-baths, double-stall garages, and an outdoor patio. The kitchen is fully equipped and opens onto the patio. The spacious master bedroom suite features a walk-in closet and master bath.

Linwood Crest
Each duplex unit includes a two-car garage, first-floor master suite, first and second floor bedrooms or dens, a large kitchen with energy efficient appliances, a large great room, a rear patio and first-floor laundry area.

Lutheran SeniorLife also offers At Home Living programs that allow seniors to remain in their own homes through participation in one of our LIFE (Living Independence for the Elderly) programs. These programs allow seniors to live in their own home while their medical, social, and nutritional needs are met through a daily program of care.

Assisted Living

For adults who may require a more structured environment, Lutheran SeniorLife's Passavant Retirement Community offers two assisted living options:

Olde Main houses 73 studio, one-room and two-room assisted living apartments as well as two respite apartments for temporary stays.

New Haven Court is a beautifully appointed 92-apartment assisted living building designed specifically to enhance social interaction through the grouping of resident apartments into neighborhoods.

Long Term Care

Our long term care program goes beyond traditional nursing care approaches and concentrates on restoration and achievement in addition to mere comfort. We offer assistance with their activities of daily living, such as walking, personal hygiene, dressing, and dining. Our health care services also include medical treatment, emotional support, extensive social activities, and many other services to help our residents maintain or improve their ability to live as independently as possible. Services are available at both St. John Specialty Care Center and in the Rehabilitation and Health Center at Passavant Retirement Community.

Seniors can receive inpatient rehabilitation at both of Lutheran SeniorLife's two major senior living facilities, Passavant Retirement Community in Zelienople, Pennsylvania and St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars, Pennsylvania. An experienced interdisciplinary team works with the individual and their family to address all aspects of recovery. In addition to the therapy staff, the interdisciplinary team includes:

Respiratory and Ventilator Services

At Lutheran SeniorLife, we provide one of the most experienced and comprehensive respiratory care programs in subacute and long term care. Our team of licensed repiratory therapists, under the medical supervision of a board certified pulmonary physician, is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our respiratory care program is tailored to the patient‘s needs and may include the following services:

Respiratory care is only available at St. John Specialty Care Center.

Skilled Nursing

We offer a wide range of specialty nursing care services, including wound care, respiratory care, intravenous (IV) care, physical and occupational therapy, Alzheimer's care, home care, and others.

Because of our faith-based mission, nursing at Lutheran SeniorLife is a deep and personal commitment that's reflected in the nurturing touch we share every day with each and every senior in our care. And it's a standard of care that's evident in the glances shared by the staff and those they care for.

Home Health Care

Lutheran SeniorLife and the Visiting Nurses Association of Western Pennsylvania have formed a new home health agency, called BeHome Partners. The collaboration of the biggest home care provider in the region and a local champion of senior care will work to help seniors in our region gain the highest level of independence possible while staying in the comfort of their own homes.

The goal is a simple one: To ensure seniors living at home in the community the opportunity to live an abundant life through the programs and services of VNA and Lutheran SeniorLife.

BeHome Partners offers a wide range of skilled home health services, including:

BeHome Partners accepts reimbursement for skilled home health care from Medicare and other insurance plans. The agency will also offer services not usually covered by insurance, for example, personal care and homemaker services for help with routine needs like bathing, light housekeeping, assistance with shopping and going to appointments.

Private Duty Home Health Services

Private Duty Home Health Services, also known as Home Life Helpers, can provide assisted living services in the home for you or a loved one. Assisted living options can range from companionship and homemaking services — such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, or driving the client to a doctor's appointment — to a more skilled level of personal care such as bathing, incontinence care, and mobility assistance. By offering these much-needed services, we can be the solution to help you or your loved one remain at home.

Private Duty Home Health Services are tailored to the individual, but not all services are covered by insurance plans.

Alzheimer's Care

Lutheran SeniorLife is known for one of the best and largest Alzheimer's care programs in the Western Pennsylvania region.

We develop a plan of care based on the unique needs of the individual and work to ensure a comfortable, safe, and secure home environment that maximizes functioning and reduces stress for the resident.

Most importantly, we recognize that as the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease progress, seniors can still live a full and abundant life long after their initial diagnosis. At our senior communities, residents are surrounded by familiar faces and furnishings that help make them comfortable in their new home and enhance their response to therapeutic activities.

The Alzheimer's Care Center at St. John Specialty Care Center consists of a four-phase program developed specifically to address each resident's needs at each stage of the disease. Although the symptoms and progression of this disease can vary greatly, residents are regularly assessed by a professional team to determine the level of care that will benefit them the most.

Specialized Medical Services

When you are ready to be discharged from the hospital, yet are not prepared to return home, Lutheran SeniorLife is here to provide you with the specialized nursing care you need to make the best recovery possible. As a faith-based organization, Lutheran SeniorLife strives to help every patient in our communities live a full and abundant life. Our goal is not only to meet the physical needs of a patient but their emotional and spiritual needs as well.

Our range of specialized medical services includes:
